Fabrication Technology of Metals
The course consists of the parts “Introduction to Metal Forming” and “Foundry Technology”. Physical and technological basics of the main casting and metal forming processes are introduced to create an understanding of the relations between material and process parameters. Next to the topics plasticity and plasto-mechanics, the calculation bases of bulk and sheet metal forming processes are taught. Furthermore, the students learn about different casting materials, casting processes and respective simulation methods.
The course involves lectures and exercises. The lectures are given by Prof. Hirt (Introduction to Metal Forming) and by Prof. Bührig-Polaczek (Foundry Technology). The language of the course is English.

Fundamentals and Solving Methods in Metal Forming
In this course, the possibilities and limitations of solving methods in metal forming including the finite element method and the similarity theory are taught. The aim is to enhance the knowledge on plasto-mechanics based on the stress and strain state, different flow laws and equivalent quantities. The students acquire the competence to analyze standard metal forming processes, to select suitable solving methods and to derive fundamental relationships for describing and evaluating the respective processes.
The course involves lectures and exercises. The lecture is given by Prof. Hirt.

Simulation Methods for Process Modelling
Integrated Computational Materials Engineering, short ICME, is a relatively young discipline which deals with the consistent description of processes along value chains across all scales. An important aspect is the interdisciplinary cooperation between scientists from different disciplines.
Within the framework of the lecture series ICME different lecturers are involved, who present the different methods and perspectives on process chains of metal processing.
The language of the course is English. Hands on excercises are performed in the IEHK compute cluster.
