The Materials in Processes working group deals with the investigation of material behavior during forming processes. This includes the determination of material parameters and process boundary values, as well as their preparation for use in process simulation and material modelling tools. A particular focus is on the process-related characterization of microstructure evolution. In addition, the working group is concerned with modelling phenomena occurring at different types of interfaces. Another key topic is digitalization in forming technology. more...

Flat & Long Products

The group for flat and long products deals with all questions concerning the production of semi-finished products. An emphasis lies on rolling processes such as flat rolling, roll bonding and caliber rolling. For those processes fast online models, new tool concepts and modelling approaches are developed. Thus, new process controls and geometries of the semi-finished products as well as deeper process knowledge become accessible. more...

Strip Casting

The research group strip casting is working on further development of the vertical twin-roll casting of steel. Their research includes further development of the process with regard to quality and new products, enhancement and optimization of caster components and the development of new, for twin-roll casting optimized materials and their processing.

Bulk Metal Forming

The bulk metal forming group studies, by means of processes as e.g. forging and ring rolling, numerous different research topics such as increasing the geometry limits and process optimization. Furthermore, models representing bulk metal forming processes are developed, which can be used for process design, prediction and improvement of workpiece properties as well as training courses.

Sheet Metal Forming

The Sheet Metal Forming group examines conventional sheet metal forming processes, such as deep drawing and bending, next to innovative processes: the combination of stretch forming and Incremental Sheet Forming is suitable for the economic production of small series. In addition, the Finite Element method is applied to design and optimize sheet metal forming processes numerically.
